Hi, i was wondering, has anyone here ever put some light blue highlights through the front of their hair?
I think i have to bleach the strand and then colour, any advice?
Just wanted to basically have a couple of blue bits in my head .....the rest of course ravishing brown.

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Mon, February 27, 2006 - 10:19 PMI did it a while back, with lavender. And, yes, you do have to bleach first, and then color. It doesn't take long, and it looks pretty amazing when you get done. -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Mon, February 27, 2006 - 10:28 PMIt depends on your coloring, I think. I'm kind of a warmish-cool, but there are those (like a former girlfriend of mine) on whom blue would just be devestating. Besides, my eyes are green, which lends a nice contrast to the purple. Makes everything pop out.

Mon, February 27, 2006 - 10:59 PMit will be great..... I used to do my entire head.... and really had to bleach it out.... but so much fun too! Even with my son's blonde hair we had to bleach it....... then did electric blue for the first day of school...

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 1:26 PMOh, very cool. I wish my mom had let my do that for school. I didn't do anything to my hair until I went home for Christmas my first year of college. That time I just went red.
Best thing I ever did that involved funky colors, though, was doing something called a cellophane. It leaves your hair its natural color in artificial light, but when you hit sunlight, it glows whatever color you went with. Can we say raspberry? -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 7:53 PMI used to have a plum celophane on my hair in high school.....
Yeah, my son and I made a deal.... he was going through chemo..... and I they suggested that we shave it so it's less messy when it falls out etc...... usually he buzzed it anyway, but the deal was that if he let me shave it on that particular day..... he could have it any color he wanted when he went back to school..... it was fun, except it didn't stay very long..... I always let the kids have fun with their hair, because once you grow up.... you don't always have the freedom to do those things..... you know?
and he's fine.... and I'd still let him dye it :-) -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:11 PMCongratulations on his recovery. I've recently gone back to plain brown, my natural hair color, but I'm thinking of doing something temporary to it, just for fun. I guess you've inspired me. ;-) I absolutely draw the line at shaving my head, though. -

Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:13 PMOh I did that, well not completely, I left 1/4 in high school..... I did have fun expressing myself.... and funny, I used to get compliments from little old ladies.... maybe they remembered what it was like to be young and free to be who you wanted before too many responsibilities and worries changed you..... enjoy!!!!!!!!!! and post pix!!!!!!!!! -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 2:17 PMOh, well that sucks. I don't have any pictures of the color changes. I hate photos. I've taken about 6-10 photos in the last month, and that's about twice what it was in the entire year before. Sorry.

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:12 PMi know i think we all should have the freedom to do what we want with our hair.....i work in a conservative law office and they are really weird about hair and image.
i resigned and am leaving at the of the month to work somewhere a bit more accepting of people's image......i say accept us the way we are, having a bit of bright blue in my hair does not impair my skills as a secretary, if anything it creates fun in a droning world of documents...but that's just my little spat i guess.
i think its fantastic that you let your kids have fun with their hair, you must be the coolest mum ever! -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:14 PMIt's the same way with piercings. I have three in each ear, which isn't too hard to deal with, for all but the most uptight, but I really want to get my nose pierced, or maybe an eyebrow, and that's a little harder to deal with.
I worked at Starbucks for a while, and even there I wasn't allowed to wear more than two pairs of earrings. And the nose? Forget it. -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:44 PMAs long as we're on the subject....I've been thinking about adding auburn highlights to my hair but don't want to spend the massive $$ in a salon. Any suggestions? A friend told me that a slight bleach would do the trick but I'm skeptical. -

Re: feeling blue...colour wise
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 8:13 AMIt will, however if your not careful it could be disasterous! And errors show up much more with darker hair vs. light hair. I'd try one of those kits made for brunettes and have a trusted friend assist...... good luck!
