Hi, i was wondering, has anyone here ever put some light blue highlights through the front of their hair?

I think i have to bleach the strand and then colour, any advice?

Just wanted to basically have a couple of blue bits in my head .....the rest of course ravishing brown.

it will be great..... I used to do my entire head.... and really had to bleach it out.... but so much fun too! Even with my son's blonde hair we had to bleach it....... then did electric blue for the first day of school...

Oh, very cool. I wish my mom had let my do that for school. I didn't do anything to my hair until I went home for Christmas my first year of college. That time I just went red.

Best thing I ever did that involved funky colors, though, was doing something called a cellophane. It leaves your hair its natural color in artificial light, but when you hit sunlight, it glows whatever color you went with. Can we say raspberry?

I used to have a plum celophane on my hair in high school.....

Yeah, my son and I made a deal.... he was going through chemo..... and I they suggested that we shave it so it's less messy when it falls out etc...... usually he buzzed it anyway, but the deal was that if he let me shave it on that particular day..... he could have it any color he wanted when he went back to school..... it was fun, except it didn't stay very long..... I always let the kids have fun with their hair, because once you grow up.... you don't always have the freedom to do those things..... you know?

and he's fine.... and I'd still let him dye it :-)

Congratulations on his recovery. I've recently gone back to plain brown, my natural hair color, but I'm thinking of doing something temporary to it, just for fun. I guess you've inspired me. ;-) I absolutely draw the line at shaving my head, though.

i know i think we all should have the freedom to do what we want with our hair.....i work in a conservative law office and they are really weird about hair and image.

i resigned and am leaving at the of the month to work somewhere a bit more accepting of people's image......i say accept us the way we are, having a bit of bright blue in my hair does not impair my skills as a secretary, if anything it creates fun in a droning world of documents...but that's just my little spat i guess.

i think its fantastic that you let your kids have fun with their hair, you must be the coolest mum ever!

It's the same way with piercings. I have three in each ear, which isn't too hard to deal with, for all but the most uptight, but I really want to get my nose pierced, or maybe an eyebrow, and that's a little harder to deal with.

I worked at Starbucks for a while, and even there I wasn't allowed to wear more than two pairs of earrings. And the nose? Forget it.

As long as we're on the subject....I've been thinking about adding auburn highlights to my hair but don't want to spend the massive $$ in a salon. Any suggestions? A friend told me that a slight bleach would do the trick but I'm skeptical.

It will, however if your not careful it could be disasterous! And errors show up much more with darker hair vs. light hair. I'd try one of those kits made for brunettes and have a trusted friend assist...... good luck!
